Wounded Warriors Weekend 2017

Here at Ryan Moody Fishing we are starting a new chapter and giving back to those in the community that suffer from things beyond their control.

On our first trip recently we took some injured servicemen out fishing on our game boat “MOODSWINGS”.

Turns out, our online course Barra Basics had inspired them to get out of the house and into the great outdoors pursuing the hobbies they love once again.

We had no idea how our online fishing courses inspire and change peoples lives.

We had such a wonderful time with these guys and got to know how and understand the effects PTSD can have on an individual!

Fishing Trip Report.

We decided to head out and chase a few marlin and perhaps do some bottom fishing targeting prized reef fish.

We did manage to raise one marlin but they have been playing it tough lately. After trading blows with quite a few tuna who became pests after a lot of double hook ups, we turned our attention to finding some wonky holes that hold some lovely red fish such as Scarlet sea perch or large mouth nannygai.

After finding a couple of these gems while we were trolling we decided to anchor up and by using a couple of different techniques we managed to trade blows with some quality fish.

We dropped down some micro jigs and flesh baits and soon our rods were bent towards the water and reels started smoking. After a great 15 minute session the lads landed a few beauties and lost a few as well.

The boys took home some stunning eating fish for the family and said this was the most amazing experience of their lives. Nick even said it was as good as his wedding day. Things that I have taken for granted for so many years are a different story for so many others.

I have had a great life doing things that many will never get to experience so its time I gave back and funnily enough I actually get a kick out of it.

Below is the video highlights of our wounded warriors weekender on Mood Swings 2017.

Big thank you to Ash Cotter from River to Sea who gave his time to come deckie for us and to our very own wounded warrior, RMF Ambassador and fishing writer Ben Weston, who travelled up from Yeppoon.

For those of you interested in how we came to find the “Wonky Holes”, here is a link to a free presentation on the topic;

Or for all the good oil, our Wonky Holes course will show you exactly how to find these honey holes.
