The most beautiful remote island on the Great Barrier Reef is Noble Island.
Unlike most coral atolls which are flat, Noble Island is the core of a volcano.
Noble Island rises majestically out of the sea and can be seen for quite a distance.
Which is how we came to know about it.
We were, quite simply, driving past and saw in the distance, this unusual island towering out of the sea.
The most beautiful remote island on the Great Barrier Reef!
Moreover, due to its remoteness it’s now completely uninhabited. However, it was mined in the past for tungsten and gold.
The island lies between Cape Melville and Lizard Island on the far north Queensland coast.
If you have a cruising vessel it’s a must stop destination.
There are several reasons we named it the most beautiful remote island on the Great Barrier Reef.
- Firstly, it’s pretty hard to get to without a cruising vessel. Hence, it’s definitely remote.
- Secondly, the rock formations are striking! Like nature’s artwork, it’s hard to take your eyes off the promontory to the south.
- Thirdly, the submerged mangrove forest with crystal clear water is magical.
- And finally, due to the crystal clear water, turtles and other fish abound and are easily spotted.
