Reflecting on 2022

Well it’s the end of the year and time to start reflecting on 2022.

So we can let that year go and gear up for 2023.

This time of year we like to do three things.

  1. Reflecting on the year just gone.
  2. Looking forward to the new year ahead.
  3. Thank our followers, students and community for all your support over the year.

REFLECTING ON 2022

We have kicked some major goals, and been bashed about the head a bit too haha.

Gotta take the good with the bad right?

Goals Kicked…
Trials and Tribulations

When looking back and reflecting on 2022, we certainly had plenty of challenges to overcome.

Some were self inflicted – like getting so stressed trying to finish Livies, with the weather not playing the game. When things are out of your control, there’s really no point setting deadlines and beating yourself up when you don’t reach them.

Others were totally out of left field. The major being the split water tank in the big boat Mood Swings.

We headed off in October for our “South to the Swaines” trip. But sadly didn’t make it past Townsville.

ON the bright side (if you look hard you’ll mostly always find one), we have found a remarkable gentleman who repaired the boat expertly at a reasonable cost. And he will be helping to maintain the vessel into the future.

As a result, once again we are on our way in Mood Swings and can’t wait to bring you the videos.

We have made a video with our Reflections on 2022, as we celebrate our accomplishments and learn from our mistakes.

The good, the Bad, and the Ugly (Expensive)

Cracked water tank of Black Watch 40
While reflecting on 2022, one the biggest issues we faced was the spilt water tank on Moody Swings. Discovered during the beginning of or trip (South to the Swaines) – stopped us in our tracks at Townsville. Miraculously we were able to find a skilled tradesman in Ingham who completed the repairs.

The culprit. Expandable foam in the water tank cavity. Over 20 years this and trapped moisture rotted the tank.

No simple fix for this puppy. A replacement tank was in order.

Repaired engine room bulkhead of motor cruiser
Better than new! Literally. Note the new inspection hatches and bung. We won’t be having this problem again.

Reflecting on 2022
Reflecting on 2022 – we always look at our relationship. As this is far more important than the business. Although we sometimes forget that. Working with your partner is not always ideal! Other times it’s the best!

Dugongs

While filming Locating Livies at Hinchinbrook. Great to see the dugongs are recovering after Cyclone Yasi.

We have amazing staff to help us!

Huge thanks to our wonderful staff – Galia (Online Operations manager in Israel), Emma (Personal assistant to Karen in Cardwell), Kara (Social media manager on the Sunny Coast), Jeffrey (Tech whizz and tech support in the Philippines), Mark (Additional customer support in the Phillipines), Polly (Bookkeeping in Mackay), Stephen (Videographer and editing here in Cairns), Colin (Product distribution in Kuranda), Stevo (Community Manager on the Sunny Coast) and special thanks to our business mentor Ramona in Townsville. Not to mention the wonderful contractors that also assist in getting our products out to the world.

It still amazes us that we have such a diverse and amazing team that support us and you!

Allowing us to do some more trips and take you to some more amazing locations – and create hopefully two more courses next year.

Aims for 2023

In the pipeline is Hidden Hotspots.

And some new merchandise under the brand RMFGO – coz that’s what we want to do and encourage you to do the same. Life is too short, sometimes we just need to Seaze the Day (pardon the pun) and just Go!

Our lures are flying out the door so Visit the RMF shop to purchase lures > here.

Not to mention our intention to travel more. We are offshore as we speak (weather permitting), then a trip to Tassie for a wedding, then a possible crossing of the top end from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean. And yes, with the help of our videographer, we will be taking you along with us!

Happy New Year and Thank you for your support

The big takeaway when reflecting on 2022, is that without your support opening our emails, buying our products, watching our videos and enjoying our courses, we would not have the lifestyle we do today. While we have worked very hard to set up a business and life we love, we could not do it without your support.

And for that we thankyou from the bottom of our heart.

Even if you never buy anything from us, we just appreciate the time you take to follow along, open our emails and enjoy our videos.

To our students, you brighten our day with your enthusiasm and dedication to success and become better anglers.

We salute you all and wish you a Happy, Safe and Wonderful New Year.

Cheers Karen and Ryan.
