Delivery Day: Preparing for our Boat Adventure

This week we had a delivery day from Garmin preparing for our boat adventure.

Because as some of you may know we are planning some big trips in our game boat Mood Swings.

Black Watch 40 game boat
Mood Swings free as a bird in all her glory during a film shoot with ET in 2017.
Custom boat in preparation for our next adventure
We had this custom boat built to tow as a fishing and filming vessel behind Mood Swings on our next big boat adventure.

It has always been our intention to travel in her to remote destinations with the new Blue Boat in tow.

But it has been a LONG time coming and we are still awhile away yet.

The plan was to be departing like this week!

Unfortunately preparing for our boat adventure has taken some set backs which we won’t go into here.

Suffice it to say DELIVERY DAY of some cool new equipment was a ton of fun.

So here is the video!

Preparing for our boat adventure – items.

1. Panoptix forward facing transducer.

Entering an anchorage or river mouth with the big boat (40 foot) can be a challenge especially on overcast days. This is where the forward facing transducer will come into it’s own.

2. Fusion Radio – entertainment system

No point preparing for our boat adventure without installing a new entertainment system. So we can play our spotify playlists LOUD over the 1100 horses.

3. Garmin VHF with AIS

AIS is a system whereby navigation information can be exchanged between AIS terminals. So hopefully we don’t get run over by a container ship!

4. GT56 Transducer

This is the upgrade of the UHD GT54 transducer and has a higher power output for side and down imaging. Extra frequency for down vu and allows us to see further in inshore waters. Perfect for chasing big barra in remote creeks.

Preparing for our boat adventure actually started when we bought the big boat in 2016. When we traded in the punt and had the blue boat built. And many upgrades and repairs to Mood Swings since.

But the biggest thing we’ve had to do is prepare our business so that we can be away out of range for long periods.

This is an ongoing process of developing systems and training staff.

We wouldn’t even be this close without our amazing team that supports us and our students every day of the week.

If you are interested in getting to know your fish finder better we can help. Take a look at our Sounder Skills 2 fish finder course!

Or we also have a great introductory course called Sounder Skills 1 to get you mastering your marine equipment and catching more fish. It really is the most important skill to learn.
