One week in Cooktown

With the monsoon pumping we were left with no option but to spend one week in Cooktown.

Heading north or south in our vessel Mood Swings was not an option, so we made our way up the river looking for a good anchorage.

Despite the weather we were happy to spend one week in Cooktown.

Cooktown is one of our favourite places in far north Queensland to go fishing.

The Great Barrier reef is super close so it’s only a short run to great fishing and snorkeling locations.

Upon arrival we headed straight to the RSL for a good old pub meal.

But while we were there, the boat got robbed!

A heap of Ryan’s lures and some tackle were stolen from the blue boat.

To find out what happened next, you’ll have to watch the video.

IF YOU’RE EVER PLANNING ONE WEEK IN COOKTOWN…

Check out our cheat sheet of lures and gear below.

When we stay in Cooktown, we generally tie the boat up at Ann and Jim’s pontoon and top up on fuel.

And this time we hired a car from Cooktown Car Hire and headed to Trevathan Falls.

Trevathan Falls is one of our favouite waterfalls.

If you ever get to spend one week in Cooktown, add it to your list of must see’s.

Together with Cape Bedford, and if you have the time, Cape Melville.

Entering the Endeavour River for our one week in Cooktown
At the time we arrived in Cooktown it was a 2.0 metre tide and we had 3.3 metres under us as we entered the Endeavour river.

Trevathan Falls
Trevathan Falls is around 25 kilometres south of Cooktown. Head down Amos Road and follow the signs. These days the road is graded and pretty good. It used to be a goat track.
