Anything that involves investing time and money is not always a solo decision. You’ve got your partner and family to consider as well. And they might not always want to jump on board with the adventures you bring to the table.
The good news here is that our Fish Smarter programs are one of those investments that can really pay off – in fishing results, entertaining the kids, and using all that fishing gear you have already bought with more success.
Plus there’s the renewed confidence that comes from successful fishing trips in both relaxation and bringing home fresh local fish for family and friends.
We’ve anticipated a few of the most common questions about enrolling in one of our fishing programs – which may help to alleviate any perfectly valid concerns the family may have.
If one of our Fish Smarter courses is right for you, we want you in the program! We have helped change the fishing fortunes of so many anglers now, we know it can work for you too.
But we also want you to feel supported by the one who matters most to you.
So let’s spin through some of the most common concerns together.
Our Fish Smarter programs are definitely an investment, but if you want your fishing to improve you can’t stagnate.
Fish are not like koalas. It’s very difficult to predict their movements as they swim around underwater, which is why only the very best anglers catch most of the fish.
To hire Ryan for just one day (we no longer offer this service) used to cost upwards of $1500 and you only got to learn about fishing the conditions of that day. The courses are filmed over a year, taking into account many contingencies and helping anglers to think on their feet when conditions change.
Last but not least, our community of like-minded anglers and mentoring by Ryan provides the space to share ideas, get feedback and make connections.
Plus any bonuses and updates are included and you get the program for life.
“A couple of years back I’d catch 4 or 5 snappers and the same number of Dhu Fish over a year travelling 1000 kilometres from Dunsborough to Shark Bay to catch snapper in numbers. In the past year, I’ve focused on local ground 10 – 20 minutes from the boat ramp. Sounder Skills 2 helped me identify local foraging areas where we picked up 61 Pink Snapper (48 over 70cm) 12 Dhuies and 2 Baldies in just a few trips. Thanks, Ryan you have changed my fishing forever!”

Actually, Ryan’s take on gear, tackle and equipment is that it’s one of the least important things. The most expensive rod and reel in the world won’t catch you more fish unless you’re fishing ON the fish at the right time.
Over decades on the water, Ryan has worked out fish movements, making it much easier to find and catch good fish and not waste money on fuel and lost tackle for little result.
Yes, we do talk about some great tools and tackle to use, but far more important is to use what you have in the right setting – to maximize its potential. It’s this “fishing strategy” that makes all the difference.
The vast majority of what you’ll learn you can apply now, without spending anything else.

Ryan and his marine biologist wife Karen have worked out a structure with concept videos, and demo videos, that will take about 7 hours (one hour a day for one week) to complete – depending on how active you want to be in the community. There are no frills and fluff in these courses.
And because there is lifetime access, the course can be paused and revisited at any time.
You’ll be able to plan your fishing days around the most productive periods in your area based on a simple framework centred around tidal run. So armed with only a tide chart, trips can be pre-planned around important family events a year in advance (weather dependent of course).
Not to mention these skills can be passed down to other family members – fishing is more fun when you’re catching and it encourages the kids to get off the computer and into the outdoors.
Last but not least, fresh wild-caught fish are so good for you. Most of the fish you purchase now is imported from crowded fish farms in polluted water overseas. It’s expensive and not good for you – instead feed them freshly caught local fish.
Plus, you’ll probably be happier and more fulfilled because you’re doing something for yourself too. Men evolved to be hunters and fishing successfully fulfills this unconscious purpose.

Pretty much anyone can create content for YouTube these days, write blogs, and contribute to fishing magazines. Most have a day job and fish on the weekends. They may have nutted out one species at one location, but the big picture takes years and years of trial and error to develop.
Much of their content is regurgitated from other “part-time” anglers, with any gold hidden in a mish-mash of tips and tricks that can also contain rubbish. How do you know what is good info for you in your circumstance and what is not?
Ryan’s courses are all structured around a one-page framework and the demo videos demonstrate each technique and concept on the water catching good fish. If it works for Ryan, you’ll know it will work for you.
The reality is to get to great heights, every great sportsman has a coach. It’s a mindset, it’s about clarity, it’s about where to focus your time. A good coach is someone who has gone before you and got runs on the board. Our students call Ryan “Yoda”. Nuff said.
