Custom Fishing Rods

Having a custom fishing rod built can be a wonderful indulgence and may not be as expensive as you may think.

A major advantage is that you can have the rod built to suit YOU and your style of fishing.

Not only can a custom fishing rod accommodate a specific purpose, they can also be made for comfort and balance to your preferred reel, arm length, and of course add some colour and bling for a unique look.

My mate Ron Farren from Salty Dog custom rods has been making rods for me for over 30 years.

The latest build is two heavy tackle 130’s so we can have a bit of fun with the big marlin from our new game boat.

But you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a nice rod.

Ronnie explains that (as at time of writing) a custom rod with quality components starts around $300.

Not much more than you pay for a top shelf rod from the tackle shop.

We visited Ron at his workshop and had a chat about the advantages of getting a custom rod built just for you, some of the customization’s possible, and how to go about beginning the process.

If you’d like to contact Ron regarding a custom rod for yourself or for a gift, you can get him via his Salty Dog facebook page.

If a custom rod is a bit out of your range, in this related post we visit BCF to talk rods, rigs, lures and tackle for tropical speedsters including a downloadable PDF cheat sheet.
