Module 2 is about working with the right tools. Because good preparation prevents poor performance. It is in Module 2 you will learn how to choose the right gear and the technology we can use to help.

The first of our identification modules, here we demonstrate all the options available to you when fishing Small/Medium (Neap) tides.
Module 3 is about areas of less run (and those where water can be held up) identifying the RIGHT habitat to place pots. Everyone knows Muddies love to get up on the flats and forage, and here we have options for larger boats to hunt them in lesser known areas. They certainly move based on certain conditions, and we show you exactly what to look for to catch more crabs from less pots! Revisit the framework to discover how to identify these productive locations. At the end of this module you will be able to:
- Recognise the kind of structure and natural indicators Muddies prefer to hang around (some can be done via google earth).
- Identify the side of the habitat to place pots.

In an area gushing with high tidal flow, where do you even start?
Module 4 is about identifying crab holding areas during large tides. It presents unique opportunities not available during small tides. We have several sub-habitats to discover, each with different criteria for holding good crab. In conjunction with the framework outlined in Module 1, at the end of this module you should be able to:

Ryan Moody started his fishing career on the reef boats before catching bucket list marlin for the likes of champion heavy tackle angler Johnno Johnson, INXS and the King of Sweden.
Branching out in the late 80’s to guided barramundi fishing, Ryan has made a name for himself as a Big Barramundi specialist and to date has put clients onto over 2000 metre plus barra.
Thirty years of daily on-water fish finder interpretation, from 2 metres deep to over 400 metres, in many different conditions, has taught him to find his own spots and regularly catch trophy fish. People are amazed at his ability to name the fish species and size prior to capture, and understand things that others can’t.
Years on the water in estuaries has also seen him catch his share of mud crabs, learning what triggers their movements and the most productive areas for pot placement.
With attitudes changing from ‘keep all you can’ towards catch and release, Ryan has decided to share his extensive knowledge and hopefully inspire people of all ages to get out from behind the computer screen/TV and into the fishing outdoors lifestyle he has spent his life perfecting.

Mud Crabs are present in tropical estuaries year round and good catches can be expected.
However, as you know it is called crabbing not catching, so don’t lose faith if you don’t get onto good crabs immediately. It takes time to embed the strategies into your habits and we find some people do the course – then go back to their old ways of doing things! These techniques and strategies are tried and proven to put you onto crabs consistently. But of course, you must implement the changes into your fishing for it to work.
Muddies S. serrata at the southern most part of their range (NSW) can stop feeding during cold weather as may Orange Mud Crabs in the far tropical north.
