Mud Crab mastery is a (very) comprehensive self-study online course that shows you step-by-step, where mud crabs will be in your local region, and how to identify (hidden) habitats and catch delectable muddies quickly and easily.
It’s based on our acclaimed “Mud Crab Mastery Framework” – lining up the 3 T’s (Territory, Timing, Techniques) and putting you in the sweet spot to catch good crab every outing.
The framework is based on 30 years of on the water experience chasing these King Crustaceans as a successful tropical estuary charter guide. While Mud Crabs are particular in the habitats they prefer, they can be found in many more areas than most people realise. After doing this course, you’ll be shocked at what you’ve been driving over.
NOTE: Mud Crabs are the common names for four species of swimming crabs, all with similar habits. Only the top two found in Australia.
Tropical mangrove systems around the world all hold good numbers of these species. No matter where you live, this course will teach you everything you need to know (and then some).

DONE FOR YOU ACTION GUIDES
Don’t waste time re-inventing the wheel. Strategy workbook and tidal calendar to remove all the guesswork.
NO FRILLS, NO FLUFF
While many people go crabbing in a small boat with no fish finder, we will also show you deeper locations where you can use electronics to find good crab. Simple and practical.
Research new spots before leaving home (we show you how) and strategically assess for key indicators will save wasted time placing pots in unproductive locations.
People drive over top ground because they don’t understand how crabs forage and move. We show you the exact strategy to quickly find the crabs in your system and take the guesswork out of it.
Crabbing the wrong locations can be expensive. Learn how to position your pots to draw crabs away from cover, while placing them in areas less likely to be swept away or stolen.
Jenies, floaters, weather, tides. Our Mud Crab Mastery framework gives you many options. Thus, you can simply move to one of many new locations, to get away from adverse situations.
Recognize opportunities to find “the perfect run” that other anglers miss. Things can change fast in estuaries, and you need to be able to adapt quickly to succeed.
Do you take temperature and rainfall into account when you go crabbing? Muddies move based on different criteria and temperature and rainfall are important ones. Understanding these relationships will get you in the strike zone faster.
Most people give very little thought to strategic pot placement. This course will show you areas untouched by other anglers that might not look like much to the uninitiated. You’ll be catching crab in locations you used to drive past.
Crabbing on the crab is about pot positioning, adjusting for current and depth, rainfall, temperature and local structures. The little things add up to make the difference.
Crabbing large tidal run can become expensive as pots wash away (and become ghost pots), hence we show you productive areas to use pots on large tides with minimal losses.
Crab diggings and some structures are great crab indicators, but can be hard to see when underwater. Until we show you how! These foraging areas can be untouched = GOLD.
There are 5 core learning modules, including in-field demonstrations of exactly how it’s done, all tied together with my MUD CRAB MASTERY Framework. The focus is species-specific and exclusive to Mud Crabs (4 species worldwide).
You will learn the most productive locations in your patch, many of which are rarely crabbed! Extra options mean extra opportunities – so when the crabs have moved up or downstream (we show you how to quickly know), you have plenty of options in another.
We have been teaching anglers fishing with strategy online (based around our fishing frameworks) for over a decade. These courses work! Now we are doing the same with CRABBING.
We also share the entire curriculum with you – so you can make sure the program is right for you.
Module 1 is all about strategy and being in the right Territory at the right Time. It’s in Module 1 you’re introduced to the ©Ryan Moody Mud Crab Mastery Framework, a flowchart that tells you exactly how to find crab quickly in your system, the most productive pot placement and soak times, and how to find the BEST locationsto try. Please note this entire course is specifically devoted to Mud Crabs in mangrove lined estuaries (not sand crabs)*. Topics covered in Module 1 include:
INCLUSIONS
Setting a solid foundation for your long term success
Module 2 is about working with the right tools. Because good preparation prevents poor performance. It is in Module 2 you will learn how to choose the right gear and the technology we can use to help.
INCLUSIONS:
The first of our identification modules, here we demonstrate all the options available to you when fishing Small/Medium (Neap) tides.
Module 3 is about areas of less run (and those where water can be held up) identifying the RIGHT habitat to place pots. Everyone knows Muddies love to get up on the flats and forage, and here we have options for larger boats to hunt them in lesser known areas. They certainly move based on certain conditions, and we show you exactly what to look for to catch more crabs from less pots! Revisit the framework to discover how to identify these productive locations. At the end of this module you will be able to:
INCLUSIONS:
In an area gushing with high tidal flow, where do you even start?
Module 4 is about identifying crab holding areas during large tides. It presents unique opportunities not available during small tides. We have several sub-habitats to discover, each with different criteria for holding good crab. In conjunction with the framework outlined in Module 1, at the end of this module you should be able to:
INCLUSIONS;
Storage, cleaning and cooking crabs. Making life easy for yourself.
Module 6: Seal the deal. This is the pointy end where all the hard work pays off. We also take a look at issues around storing, cleaning and cooking crabs. At the end of this module you will be able to:
INCLUSIONS:

Ryan Moody started his fishing career on the reef boats before catching bucket list marlin for the likes of champion heavy tackle angler Johnno Johnson, INXS and the King of Sweden.
Branching out in the late 80’s to guided barramundi fishing, Ryan has made a name for himself as a Big Barramundi specialist and to date has put clients onto over 2000 metre plus barra.
Thirty years of daily on-water fish finder interpretation, from 2 metres deep to over 400 metres, in many different conditions, has taught him to find his own spots and regularly catch trophy fish. People are amazed at his ability to name the fish species and size prior to capture, and understand things that others can’t.
Years on the water in estuaries has also seen him catch his share of mud crabs, learning what triggers their movements and the most productive areas for pot placement.
With attitudes changing from ‘keep all you can’ towards catch and release, Ryan has decided to share his extensive knowledge and hopefully inspire people of all ages to get out from behind the computer screen/TV and into the fishing outdoors lifestyle he has spent his life perfecting.
During Ryan’s charter years he kept his secrets close to his heart (like most anglers do!). But with the death of a good friend, came the realization that he wants to leave a legacy. One of fishing and crabbing with strategy, rather than relying on luck. Ryan has the experience & knowledge, and his marine biologist wife, Karen, has the ability to dissect it and put it together into easy, understandable lessons. His courses are all built around the philosophy of fishing and crabbing smarter, not harder.

I do a lot of crabbing, so when Ryan asked me to help out with making the Mud Crab Mastery course, I was all in.
What I wasn’t prepared for however, was learning so much from the experience.
Watching Ryan place pots on texture changes on his side scan he just found, proclaim there was crabs down there, and then fill the pot after a 2 hour soak was very impressive.
As a beta tester of the course, I really like how the concept videos give an overview and then the specific sections are broken down so you can concentrate on one piece at a time. It makes a complicated topic simple, especially tying it all back into the framework.
I’ve done many of Ryan’s courses now and I learn something from every single one of them!
Over the years, we’ve listened to thousands of anglers who head to the mangrove lined creeks chasing Muddies, with intermittent success.
Mud Crabs can be nomadic and move about a system based on various cues – then hole up and forage in certain areas.
We created this course to help you land pots on the crabs more often and catch more crabs. Pretty simple.
We’re confident you’ll get great value from the course if you’ve ever said anything like:
TRANSFORM YOUR CRABBING IN JUST ONE HOUR A NIGHT (FOR ONE WEEK)
In only one hour a night for about a week (or an all-dayer one rainy day), you’ll have ingested over 30 years of Ryan’s knowledge.
There is no BS in this course. Only solid, actionable, step-by-step advice straight from the Master.
Knowledge which will allow you to…

We cater for both beginners and advanced students.
While the majority of our students will have caught some muddies, I envisage a great deal of success with absolute beginners and here’s why… You will learn to think and behave like a top performer right from the start. You will avoid costly mistakes and be confident you are on the right track. We start with the basics and work up from there to cater for everyone and have also included a bonus on exactly what gear you need and how to use it.
Highly Likely. Please read this carefully.
Mud Crabs are present in tropical estuaries year round and good catches can be expected.
However, as you know it is called crabbing not catching, so don’t lose faith if you don’t get onto good crabs immediately. It takes time to embed the strategies into your habits and we find some people do the course – then go back to their old ways of doing things! These techniques and strategies are tried and proven to put you onto crabs consistently. But of course, you must implement the changes into your fishing for it to work.
Muddies S. serrata at the southern most part of their range (NSW) can stop feeding during cold weather as may Orange Mud Crabs in the far tropical north.
Our mission is to help you realise your full potential and achieve your dreams of crabbing success.
Unfortunately, due the easily shareable nature of this content, we do not offer a refund other than when required by Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Law.
Even if you don’t end up using it straight away, you still get to keep & use it over and again. Ryan’s strategies have been tested and proven.
It’s a unique, generous offering, and you’d be hard pressed to find as much content, and knowledge in a very small priced program. When you invest in yourself with a Ryan Moody Fishing membership, your purchase is final.
This is a group coaching program.
While Ryan will be active in the private Mud Crab Mastery community, we cannot guarantee feedback on every occasion for each student as we do go away fishing/crabbing at times and can’t be available 24/7. That said Ryan gives it a good crack and you definitely want to make the effort to join the private Facebook study group. Our Ambassadors are also on hand to provide advice most days.
The primary difference between all of our premium programs and other educational fishing/crabbing products is that it’s not a just a series of tips strung together.
Mud Crab Mastery is a well structured course held together by a simple framework. The framework shows you step by step where to go (Territory), what to use (Technique) at what tide (Time).
We call it the three T’s and it is the exact strategy Ryan Moody has used to catch thousands of Mud Crabs over the years as a fishing guide. It works and is proven to work and as our students will attest, is applicable anywhere the four Scylla species of Mud Crab can be found.
