Camping at Lizard Island is a great option if you have a 7 metre + boat.
While we stay on our big boat Mood Swings, it can be reached by a trailer boat in good weather.
There is a fantastic camp ground complete with BBQ’s, toilets and beautiful beach.
Each camp spot has a table and there is a water well for fresh water within 200 metres.
Camping on Lizard Island is at the Watson’s Bay campground.
The Watson’s Bay campground can be accessed directly by boat via the beach.
Lizard Island provides protection from all wind directions.
However anchoring the boat in Watson’s Bay is closer and offers great protection from the south east to north east winds.
Accordingly, Blue Lagoon is best to anchor the boat during westerleys. Although it’s a long walk to the campground. Perhaps 2 kilometres.
There is also an expensive luxury resort on the island.
However you can camp for a tiny fraction of that cost via the QPWS website.
Due to it’s remoteness and rugged beauty, camping on Lizard Island is well worth the effort to get there.
And there is plenty of history to be discovered. It’s a stunning location with top walking tracks.
The trail up to Cooks Look is a highlight.
It’s a class 5 walking track and climbs over 300 meters in about 2KM. As a result you will be forced to scramble up granite boulder slabs and many stairs.

FISH FINDER FUNDAMENTALS
Going remote in a boat is easier if you can catch good eating fish regularly.
Doing so requires a good understanding of your fish finding equipment.
Sounder Skills is only $20 Australian at the moment and well worth a look.
