We finally did it!
After months of sitting on 1999 and catching a score of 90-99 cm fish, Ryan finally caught his 2000th metre plus barramundi after a 30 year career in fishing charters.
Even more exciting, we made the nightly news AND got a write up in the paper.
To celebrate we made a video about Ryan’s journey from cheeky Townsville kid to Master angler.
He tells the story about catching the big girl in the video, which also documents his fishing career, how he got started and some great fishing footage.
A summarized version of the record capture is as follows:
- Location – Cardwell Marina, North Queensland, Australia
- Technique – Hand casting lures
- Lure – Old Dog Lures “Mutt”
- Reel – Fin-Nor Lethal 40
- Rod – Berkley Blast 10 kg spin (6’6″)
- Braid – Rovex Air Strike 20 lb
Over the years Ryan has filmed many of these big salty barra captures.
Beginning with a trusty Hi 8 camera in the 90’s, to go pro’s and 4K vision, many of these exciting captures have been compiled in our Big Barra Series.
If you love watching big barra aerial action, this series is great viewing for a rainy day.
